The neo-Nazi murder trial revealing Germany's darkest secrets
- CamperBob2 10y agoArticle unreadable on Firefox due to elaborate yet incompetent Web design. Moving on to the next distraction...
- acqq 10y agoEven if you don't like the original design, as far as I see, the "Reader view" in Firefox, which you can customize yourself, works. Am I missing something? Edit: Explained here, with pictures: http://computercarekelowna.com/fun-firefox-features/ http://computercarekelowna.com/fun-firefox-features/ Firefox can even read the page aloud from there.
- CamperBob2 10y agoI don't even know to access the "Reader view." What's wrong with plain old HTML?
- miles 10y agoHere you go! Firefox Reader View for clutter-free web pages https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clutter-free-web-pages https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-reader-view-clu... Comes in handy on cluttered, recalcitrant sites.
- BuuQu9hu 10y agoJust turn off CSS?
- sctb 10y agoPlease move on quietly.
- CamperBob2 10y agoNo. Stop trying to break the Web, or to apologize for those who do.
- acqq 10y agoIt would probably help your case if you'd at least spend the time to state what specifically you consider "broken" instead of making the posts that don't pass any useful information to the readers. The basic bug reporting is in the form: "when I do X, Y happens but I'd expect to see Z." The report containing just "it's broken" doesn't say anything, except that more strongly correlates with the PEBKAC, in the sense that such a report is just a problem in itself instead of helping the possible solution.
- CamperBob2 10y agoOK: "When I use the mouse wheel, either spinning or clicking and drag, the page lurches briefly, but I'd expect it to scroll." Initially, after I clicked to dismiss the overlay that begs for money to support "quality journalism," it wouldn't scroll at all, but now, on a return visit where the overlay doesn't show up, I can read the rest of the page by dragging the scrollbar at right. So there's that. Naturally, the begging prompt worked fine, as do all of the animated ads in the margins and the autoplaying video ad immediately below the fold. Plenty of pages break scrolling, but the combination of the potentially-interesting content, the begging-for-money routine, and the over-the-top advertising assault makes the act of complaining not just cathartic, but (IMHO) obligatory. I'm sure no one here is responsible for that particular site, but hey, it's an influential crowd, right? Of course, I'm sure that if I did subscribe, all of those dancing animated ads and unsolicited videos would go away, leaving me to read in peace. (Right?)
- JamilD 10y agoIt's not mentioned in the article, but there's an excellent Netflix-produced, German-language dramatization of these events called "NSU German History X" [0]. It has three 90 minute long episodes; one from the perspective of the perpetrators, one from the victims', and one from the investigators'.
