I'm glad you wrote this. As a non-programmer but someone who was a math education minor 20 years ago, I was really having a hard time with some of the statements like "That is ugly" or "starting with 0, however, gives the nicer range." I was trying to think of a reason why it would be computationally inelegant or something.
