The overall experience of using emacs is very dated. Again, for those who are not users of emacs it presents a deep burden. There is no barrier to entry in using a simple text editor, and a modern IDE brings that simplicity with additional niceties. Given a choice, I would use a simple editor with syntax highlighting over emacs.
