Microservices, IMO, are more about scaling engineering organizations than they are about scaling actual code, or producing better code. Treating each part of the product as a self-contained service (a product in itself) with well-defined customers, and defined contracts with those consumers will often allow different teams within an organization to operate with more autonomy.
