50sqm for one person is more than enough where I live. I grew up in a household of four in a 60sqm apartment and it was totally fine. I've lived alone in 30sqm apartments and 60sqm apartments. Haven't seen much of a difference, besides that having more than 2 people over in a 30sqm apartment gets claustrophobic. 500sqm house seems totally ridiculous to me.
