ReactiveX seems to have documented notions for it: https://github.com/ReactiveX/RxJava/wiki/Backpressure https://github.com/ReactiveX/RxJava/wiki/Backpressure Highly recommend the Reactive series of libs. They're typically very well done. The guy below is right that Akka is perfectly suited.
