Truth is AWK can beat most "big data" tools uses on a single node. I remember trying to cut some data from a 18GB csv file with etl tools (even one made by google!) and not getting any results after several houer because the file was way too long. AWK (and tee) made me wait for 20 minutes to get the final result. 10x less than the largest running method I tried so far...
