    Can someone explain to me why there are two [-] [-] links? Is this some bug in my browser (perhaps related to using the hckr news plugin to highlight recent comments?)

      I suspect that's the case. Can you disable the plugin to see if the second goes away? Do they both work as expected? I've only ever seen one [-] at the end of the comment header.
