Python is trademarked by the Python Software foundation. IANAL but pretty sure that means he doesn't get to call it Python 2.8

    If they don't protect their trademark they open themselves up to what is essentially loss of the trademark in the US. They could license it to Python 2.8 for free if they want to, though it seems unlikely.
