One of my best friends from university went on to write embedded systems for train controllers (this is in the UK). Given the amount of web stuff we did at uni I thought this would be the last thing he'd do. He's more than happy and joined the company because they gave him hard, interesting challenges. Not all good people end up at "trendy" places.
