Looking through your last couple comments you seem like you're constantly looking to get into political arguments by writing inflammatory comments mostly regarding gender. I'm not surprised that when you fish for a political argument, you end up attracting the worst that the site has to offer.
- Mz 10y agoIt would be super nice if you did not do this. I assure you, women who have been here a long time have good reason to have baggage. Her approach isn't productive at the moment, but your comment will read to quite a lot of women as victim blaming and drive them away. This undermines the progress that some people here have work incredibly hard for.
- adrienne 10y agoI think you misunderstood. The only reason I occasionally comment here at all is because i am just that horrified by some dude on HN saying a horrible thing yet again. I don't have very many comments that aren't "political" because i basically never engage with the comments. And i don't do that because the site is such an unwelcoming, horrible cesspit, whether it's a "political" topic or a "purely technical" (hah!) topic. I have been working with computers and participating, intermittently, in networked/online spaces for longer than a lot of people on HN have been alive. (And note that i've been aware of HN, and an occasional peruser of the front page, since long before i actually bothered to make an account.) You'd think i'd be part of HN's core audience, right? And yet i'm not because i literally cannot read a comment thread on this site without seeing people saying things that make me sick that i have to share a planet with them.
- bradjohnson 10y agoAh, I see. I guess I was a bit quick to judge. I think the community is not as bad as you say, but it definitely could be better. Maybe this change will help a bit?
