An open source & free, ACID compliant, horizontally scalable database that supports versioned data out of the box.
Currently there is way too much time and money is being spent on re-implementing this functionality on normal DBs.
PS: There is Datomic, but it's not free: http://www.datomic.com/ http://www.datomic.com/
