Emacs's editor is good. The real problem is the awful default configuration. If you want convenient Emacs then you should define your own favorite keystrokes (with global-set-key) and download useful tools like speedbar (via MELPA) for convenient file browsing, etc.
I know Emacs for 25+ years, I saw many editors come and go. Today I am still using Emacs because its ability to be customized, and the simplicity of the plugin system is still unmatched.
