"Facebook already exerts total control over what its users see." That bothers me a little. I have a page and Facebook somehow decides who and when a post is shown to a user who liked the page. It seems that Facebook shows it to a small group of people over an hours time or so and then depending on whatever metrics and interactions are made to a wider group or not. I don't know if it is good or bad because some posts that do very well on Reddit and Hacker News do very poorly on Facebook while posts that do very well on Facebook can do very bad on Reddit and Hacker News.
