- mahyarm 10y agoThey don't need to, since they have the much better source of cell phone carriers with 24/7 location. And google android OS and apple to a certain extent.
- mentat 10y agoYes, people are like "oh NSL". Are they not paying attention to carrier access, stingray, general SIGINT? Like really this is HN at its most ridiculous.
- mc32 10y agoOr in countries which have family registries it can be used to track people who fail to update the registry or move to a city illegally in places where intra-national movement is restricted.

- bobbles 10y agoI think its pretty relevant if someone is looking for uber help that they could use the location to help narrow down who should be dealing with the issue...
- 0xmohit 10y agoThe linked article mentions that you can select "Never" so as not to share your location with Uber. However, on iOS at least, the latest version of the app is pretty much unusable when you do so. I did write to Uber regarding this a while back and the response was basically "Thank you. We'll forward it to the appropriate team." I suspect that they'd anything about it as the current functionality is by design more than anything else.
- CaptainZapp 10y agoWell, so says Uber. Unfortunately their history has proven to me that they're an utterly untrustworthy company and some lofty PR bullshit certainly won't change my opinion on them.
