Upper-class acquaintances typically haven't had to worry about making bank straight out of school, so they can take time to study the liberal arts things that give people a broader perspective. They may not know how to execute, but they have plenty of ideas on what to do, and enough cash and connections to pay others for the "know-how." Middle-class acquaintances all went directly into something that pays the bills: trades, engineering, law, etc. They know how to do things, but not what to do. They all work for the man.
