I loved in the UK for many years and loved it.
But I did not love the stuffy language occasionally found, such as the quote below from the"consultation document":
> Given due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, harassment and
victimisation, to advance equality of opportunity, and to foster good relations between
people who share a relevant protected characteristic (as cited under the Equality Act
2010) and those who do not share it; and
To quote Samuel Jackson:
> English, motherfucker! Do you speak it?

- noir-york 10y agoI thoroughly enjoyed Gyles' speech! Thanks for sharing

- abraae 10y agoBrilliant.
- raverbashing 10y agoBut that phrase is good English, though it might be contrived somewhat Yes, it's not very readable
- ascorbic 10y ago"Medicare fiscal intermediaries and carriers shall use the Government furnished Medicare Data Communications Network (MDCN) to support all Medicare operational data connectivity requirements. Such uses include Common Working File communications, shared processing remote operations, remote printing, shared system maintenance support (testing, release/fix distribution, remote diagnostics) and functional subcontracting arrangements necessitating the transfer of data to remote sites." [1] Quoting a government healthcare consultation document as an example of language used in the UK is about as meaningful as me going to healthcare.gov, clicking a few links, and then copying a paragraph here. - abraae 10y agoExcept that this consultation document is aimed at every citizen: > NHS England’s Chief Executive Simon Stevens is calling on patients and the public to have their say in a ten week consultation on plans to cut the sales of sugary drinks sold in hospitals. .. whereas the one you quote appears to be aimed at the decidedly narrower audience of: > Medicare fiscal intermediaries and carriers

- kwhitefoot 10y agoPerhaps you could give us your version so that we might compare.
