I think you are seeing what isn't there. Of course that's the definition of a hole. "Is there some sort of deeper meaning or purpose to the hole? No."

          The FAQ stated there wasn't a purpose to the hole. Not that their lack of purpose wasn't purposeful. Two different things.

  Its similar to Marcel Duchamps urinal. Its meaning is up to the viewer. Throwing money at a hole in the ground.
