I signed it, though I'm pretty sure that the government e-petitions are a well crafted wind for people to piss into.
At least I become a +1 in the count of people who object.
- ischm 10y agoDon't worry. If the petition does not help, there is a lot more in the political toolbox. Next maybe a public demonstration.
- wlll 10y agoHonestly not sure how well those really work either. As long as a majority (or lets face it, significant minority, see US election) can be manipulated into voting against their interests the only thing politicians need to fear are actual threats to their power. Maybe I'm too cynical :)
- akerro 10y agoWelcome to the watchlist!
- rubberstamp 10y agoGovernments are nothing without people on their side. If enough people demands to repeal a bad law, they have no choice but to repeal it. If they don't people will know its not their government anymore. At least that is one good thing about democracy or any form of government that will listen to their people.
- wlll 10y agoAt this point I have no faith in any of the political systems in place to really represent the people. People can already be manipulated into voting against their interests.
