I use vi because: a) it is the standard editor on UNIX systems. b) I haven't invested the time to learn emacs yet. :-) As a sysadmin, I have to deal with many types of UNIX systems, and it's nice to work with something's that's standard that's likely to be there, no matter how old or new the system. I even teach vi professionally (http://www.verticalsysadmin.com/vi.htm http://www.verticalsysadmin.com/vi.htm) and people enjoy how powerful vi is. Modern vi (vim) has some many nice enhancements as well.
