We have been calling for audits for more than a decade. I've piloted these audits in about 20 counties, published the methods and results in peer-reviewed journals, worked with local and state election officials to make them logistically efficient and to draft laws, etc. But this is the first election in a decade in which there seems to be the political will to do what we should do after every election: double-check the paper to ensure that errors, bugs, misconfiguration, or outright hacking did not alter the outcome.
