  Maybe he meant Hawaii (now part of U.S., North America) and Easter Island (now part of Chile, South America)!

  They brought kumara, a sweet potato, back to NZ with them from the Americas. There's also possible evidence they brought chickens to Chile, and I believe some evidence of Polynesian canoe designs showing up in California
