I hope they still make an airplay device that can take over for my Airport express.

The Apple AirPort extreme is of little interest to me, it's the AirPort Express I care about. I haven't found any real good replacement for those. I have two and they've been running for 8 or 10 year, with out failure.

For Airplay, I replaced my Airport Express w/ a RaspberryPi running Shairport a few years ago. Works much better, perhaps because the Pi is on wired ethernet, for one less streaming signal over the wireless (?). https://computers.tutsplus.com/articles/using-a-raspberry-pi-as-an-airplay-receiver--mac-54316 https://computers.tutsplus.com/articles/using-a-raspberry-pi... https://github.com/abrasive/shairport https://github.com/abrasive/shairport

You can connect an express on ethernet too, and it works pretty good for me. And I don't have to maintain a rasberry pi.
