- rosstex 10y agoBackblaze. They ship you TB external hard drives with all your data for a fee, and refund the fee if you return the drives.
- tedmiston 10y agoIt would great if they would keep that level of convenience for external drives. Backblaze deleting external drive backups every 30 days [1] is maddening. - rosstex 10y agoWow, I didn't know about that.... that's disappointing.
- tedmiston 10y agoI'm pretty confident they make it intentionally hidden so you don't know until it affects you. For example, titling the FAQ "What happens to my backups when I'm away or on vacation?" vs "What is your external drive retention policy?"
- sincarne 10y agoI don't think it's hidden. Backblaze will warn you if it hasn't seen a drive in a few days, and right in that email is the heads up that the drive will be deleted. I thought it was also in the external drive management pane of the app. However if you just let Backblaze do its thing, and don't have warnings enabled, you might get got good.
- tedmiston 10y agoNot the warnings themselves — the fact that your data is not retained on external drives in the onboarding and FAQ.
