Ask HN: Any expertise on setting up multiple platform test envionments?
Hi,
I've built an app that connects into multiple ecommerce platforms like magento, woocommerce, shopify etc and need to set up a server that can host all these environments for testing within. I have little experience in this area and was wondering if anyone could give their expertise and advice towards this.
Ideally I will have a site that provides a list of all the test environments I have and their versions etc and have the ability to add and remove test environments. At the moment thinking this part will be a custom application.
Not really sure how to approach this, few misconceptions for me.
- Should each ecommerce platform be ran on it's own server, or is it possible to run them all on one.
- If they are all ran on one server, would they each just be ran under a different url route?
- Is it possible to run these ecommerce platforms through a virtual image, that would allow for a clean environment upon starting each one?
After writing this, I'm imagining I could have a simple nodeJs application that can store each test environments IP and path, and then just index them all. Is it the best way to do this?
