This feels like naivete and arrogance of the question asker. Why should a group of computer scientists understand a particular equation? What does it mean if they don't?
- dllthomas 10y ago> Why should a group of computer scientists understand a particular equation? Because it's incredibly simple, and expresses concepts they should already be familiar with as they're both incredibly basic and plenty relevant to CS. The notion of "one-to-one" and "onto" functions is taught in high-school algebra! > What does it mean if they don't? It mostly means they've not been using this notation, which is a problem not because the notation is necessarily perfect (although I dispute those saying what's used here is particularly arcane - this is super basic stuff) but because there is a whole lot of relevant knowledge encoded that way (including plenty of CS papers!) and clearly they haven't been accessing it.
