ehhhh... years of daily pushups contributed to the slow shredding of cartilage in my wrist and two operations before i could type again.

this. can't stress enough.
- jazzyk 10y agoI would stress varied exercises. Push-ups are known to exert stress on wrists, you need to do a variety of heavy lifting exercises (if you already have RSI, start gradually and watch YouTube videos how to do it right) Also, stretch your arms. For me, this book was a God-send: https://www.amazon.com/Repetitive-Strain-Injury-Computer-Users/dp/0471595330/ref=pd_sim_14_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0471595330&pd_rd_r=GWJ0E61WW9CBQ63ZQJCP&pd_rd_w=8QF6g&pd_rd_wg=sRWs3&psc=1&refRID=GWJ0E61WW9CBQ63ZQJCP https://www.amazon.com/Repetitive-Strain-Injury-Computer-Use... I had pretty serious RSI issues a few years ago. Thanks to this book (and working out), I forgot all about it - you can do it, too!
- Too 10y agoI'll second that. Push ups can make wrist problems worse if not done carefully. Do them on your fists or holding a bar instead of palms flat down to reduce unnatural bending of your wrist.
- therealdrag0 10y agoYep. Pushups are my favorite exercise, yet I can't do them because they exacerbate my wrists pain.
