I mean one of these dreaded combo modem/router thingies, hence the quotes. There is no bridge mode, and I cannot turn off NAT. It's also doubles as a completely fucked up DNS server which I have to override for resolv.conf.
- Alupis 10y agoDoes your ISP allow you to get your own modem? I did this recently at home (saves money after owning it for a year, as it's "paid off" then in monthly modem rental fees), and although I have problems with the level of control my ISP has over the modem (there's no configurations or login, you activate it on their network and they control it fully), it's now just a "dumb modem" and does nothing else.
- jlgaddis 10y agoIs this a cable modem? If so, that's just how it works. It downloads its configuration file (via TFTP) when it boots up (per DOCSIS).
- clarry 10y agoYes, in fact I have my own modem. When I bought this one, it seemed to be the only 4G modem with dual antennas, ethernet ports & wlan.
- countingteeth 10y agoThen you knowingly bought a combo shitbox. There have always been quality consumer wireless access points, modems, and routers available, but you chose to buy the combo shitbox.
- clarry 10y agoI knowingly bought the only device that will get me to the internet while having good antennas.
