Tangent: I found 1.4M to 1.7M employees for NHS on google. 64.1M people in the UK, 31.42M employed.
1.4M / 31.42M = 4.5% of the entire UK workforce works for NHS? Is this a normal distribution for a developed country?
- martinald 10y agoHow many people are employed in the US in healthcare? I would guess way more (10%? 20%?) We spend about 7% of GDP on the NHS. So it's about right that number.
- sockmeistr 10y agoApproximately 9% of US workers are in healthcare. (http://kff.org/other/state-indicator/health-care-employment-as-total/ http://kff.org/other/state-indicator/health-care-employment-...) The UK does have a private healthcare sector, although smaller than the NHS.
