Petition – Student loan payments reduce gross income so taxed just like 401k
- dannypgh 10y agoThese tax deductions make our tax system more regressive- the benefit of the deduction is proportional to your marginal tax rate, and you have to be able to afford school for it to have any benefit. I've no objection to policy measures like this as long as they're coupled with other changes to increase the progressiveness of the tax system, but given the outcome of the recent election, I wouldn't bet that taxes are going to become more progressive.
