.pl is perl, use .pg for prolog
- TheRealPomax 10y agoor don't, because .pl is _also_ prolog and if you use something SWI Prolog, which is a windows executable, chances that you're still also using perl are preeeetty small.
- gwu78 10y agoProlog predates Perl by 15 years.
- cdmckay 10y agoWhere are you getting .pg from? Wikipedia lists .pl, .pro and .P as extensions.
- mst 10y agoAmusingly perl's documentation says .pl is for a perl library and perl scripts should be .plx (for perl executable). So nobody pays attention to that rule anyway. I do get slightly confused switching between #perl and ##prolog on freenode sometimes, but the other regulars just laugh at me and we move on ;)
- justinator 10y agoThis may be true in Perl 4, but hasn't been a rule in this century, I don't believe.
- mst 10y agohttp://stackoverflow.com/questions/1567546/is-the-perl-plx-filename-extension-ever-used-in-real-life http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1567546/is-the-perl-plx-f... It's not a rule I can remember encountering anybody actually following, but it's still theoretically a thing at least up to about a decade ago, which is very definitely perl5 era. It's not where I thought it was in the perldoc though, so either it isn't in there at all or I screwed up looking for it. So, roughly, "I think it turns out we're both sort-of wrong" :)
