Obama is an ethnic cleanser?
"the so-called soft-on-immigration Obama administration deported more unauthorized immigrants during its first six years than the Republican George W. Bush administration did over its full eight."

- ajross 10y agoGood talking point. The current situation is indeed bad enough. But Trump promised to do far, far more than Obama ever has. What do I say to my kid? That Trump didn't mean it and it probably won't happen? (That's my current plan.)
- cmdrfred 10y agoWhy not try the truth? "Son, most people in the world don't have the opportunity you and I have. You see we live in one of the wealthiest nations on the planet and we are very lucky to be here. So, it is only natural that people who are not from here wish to come here. We used to make this easier for them, but over the years that process became so expensive and cumbersome that some of them decided to simply walk across the border. Now they were technically breaking the law when they did that, but it is understandable given the lack of opportunity where they came from. As the law stands they are here illegally. Now, the Republicans tell their voters that they wish to deport these people, often that doesn't happen because they want them to stick around and work on their farms and factories. On the other hand the Democrats claim they want to help these people, but right now a Democratic president has deported record numbers of them for some reason. The truth is these people don't get a vote in our society, so the politicians simply don't care about them. Both sides use them as a political tool to advance their ambitions, and that's wrong. Grow up to be better than them."
- AnimalMuppet 10y agoMany years ago, I read something from Joel Garreau, who was quoting a DA in southern California, which I will summarize here: "This whole thing is discombobulated in terms of traditional Democratic and Republican positions. "Democrats tend to be in favor of the little guy. They also tend to be quality-of-life people. If you look at the long-term implications of unrestricted immigration..." [Garreau's comment:] Goodbye, zero population growth. "On the other hand, the Republicans tend to be law-and-order people. They also tend to be pro-business. And they know that if they removed all the illegals, there'd be nobody there to work at a lot of businesses. "This creates a very, very difficult situation." Neither side likes illegal immigration very much, neither side really wants to stop it. It's a mess.
- ajross 10y agoSo, you're on the "Trump was lying his ass off, this shit would obviously never happen" train too then. Good to know, I guess. And what happens when the voters who took this promise literally find out and demand it? You don't think he'll cave some time before he needs their votes again in four years?
- cmdrfred 10y ago>And what happens when the voters who took this promise literally find out and demand it? What happened when we demanded Obama close Guantanamo Bay as he promised?
- dragonwriter 10y agoWe, as in the US as a whole, didn't. In fact "we" elected, repeatedly, Congresses that actively prohibited it.
- cmdrfred 10y agoLike the Democratic majority he had while first elected?
