Fully-funds the construction of a wall on our southern
border with the full understanding that the country of
Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost of such wall; establishes a two-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous deportation, and a five-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering for those with felony convictions
How Mexico will be forced to pay for a wall built by the US will make for a good TV show.
Private prisons are about to make a killing with the 2- and 5-year mandatory prison terms.
- elchief 10y agoBan Western Union "send money back to family in Mexico" payments until Mexico agrees to pay for the wall: https://assets.donaldjtrump.com/Pay_for_the_Wall.pdf https://assets.donaldjtrump.com/Pay_for_the_Wall.pdf
- sago 10y agoBuy BTC, now. It's going to be yuge.
- waterphone 10y agoI take it Trump hasn't heard of Bitcoin.
- elchief 10y agoNor have most poor Mexicans I assume
- waterphone 10y agoThey'll figure it out if other methods get cut off. It's not hard.
- jjawssd 10y agoIt is hard. And a little bit more hard without good Internet connectivity. And maybe even a little bit very illegal to perform the transaction. Not that it can't be done. It just cannot be done by the gen pop.
- giarc 10y agoI don't usually read campaign documents like this... is this normal? Is it normal to simplify things so much so to say Day 1 do X, Day 2 do Y, Day 3 resolved.
- elchief 10y agoIs a little more structured and upfront than others I've seen
- giarc 10y agoIn one sense I would suspect typical high level political speak. On the other hand, if you are going to go into detail, do you make it seem as easy as 3 days of action? So weird - thanks for linking that by the way.
- mikeash 10y agoToo bad there's no other way to send money internationally.
- joesb 10y agoDo they also ban sending money to any other country where the guy in other country will send the money to Mexico?
- nommm-nommm 10y agoI think you've just described money laundering.
- passive 10y agoSeriously, prison sentences for illegally entering the country is grade-A nuts. There's other stuff on there that at least sounds good, but this sounds like "we'll solve a $$ problem with $$$".
- btym 10y agoYeah, this is just confusing. The supposed economic impact of having illegal immigrants work for less than minimum wage is not going to be worse than the impact of housing, clothing, and feeding them for 2-5 years.
- finid 10y agoPrivate prison operators are not worried about that. It's money, your money, in their pocket. By the way, the scheme is already in place. It's part of the limited immigration "reform" that Obama managed to get from the Republicans. There's a minimum guaranteed prison time before deportation. So the 2-5 years minimum is just bonanza.
- giarc 10y agoI feel like deporting them over and over again would be cheaper than housing/feeding/clothing them for 5 years.
- shostack 10y agoAnd us tax payers picking up the bill for those stays in Federal prison is interesting as well. If the argument is they are costing taxpayers money in the form of jobs, isn't costing taxpayers money from paying for prison similar?
