Thanks for helping the readers of Hacker News understand why Trump won.
- chronic6l 10y agoI voted for Trump. I'm also a distinguished engineer at Google in Mountain View, CA.

- pg314 10y agoCan you share why you think he would make a good president?
- reitanqild 10y agoNot GP, but maybe I can shed some light: The last 24 hours I have catched a glimpse of it as a number of people have emptied their heartfelt contempt for * uneducated white males, * every person who voted Trump * etc I don't like Trump. I was surprised at every step that he got so far. I wouldn't have voted for him myself. But since yesterday I might have started to understand why Americans did. Sorry to all reasonable democrats (I guess you are the vast majority) but I think your allies actually might have secured Trumps victory. Sincerely, Someone who lives in Europe Edit: won't answer your question on why he would be a good president, only the question you didn't ask about why he became a president-elect. Neither will I say that he won't become a good president, cause frankly at this point I don't get it more. I will continue to respect democracy and American people and their rules for choosing presidents.
- CamperBob2 10y agoSorry to all reasonable democrats (I guess you are the vast majority) but I think your allies actually might have secured Trumps victory. It's very clear that this is indeed what happened, and more directly than you think. According to Wikileaks, the Democrats conspired to tilt the Republican primary field in favor of candidates that they expected to be easy to defeat in the general election. One of those candidates was Donald Trump. https://www.google.com/#safe=off&q=pied+piper+candidates+wikileaks https://www.google.com/#safe=off&q=pied+piper+candidates+wik... This act of self-destructive subversion on the DNC's part shouldn't be forgotten, but for some reason hardly anyone seems to care. This memo should be a huge deal because it explains something that wasn't clear before: how Trump ended up with hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of free publicity from left-leaning US media outlets, even when he was considered a joke candidate. It is now indisputable that our media outlets take their marching orders straight from the Democratic headquarters. I will continue to respect democracy and American people and their rules for choosing presidents. Thanks. That respect is more than we deserve.
- CyberDildonics 10y agoOne of the elite 30,000 people that works for google? To what do we owe the honor (and why did you list their headquarters location)?
- leurfete 10y agoBeing a distinguished engineer at Google is definitely elite. Only a tiny fraction of its 30k employees hold that title and it probably draws a salary in the 1-2% range.
- rpiguy 10y agoI also voted for Trump. Valley startup expat with a masters degree now working for a Fortune 50 on the East Coast. Quarter Filipino. Supported Trump since the primaries.
- simplemath 10y agoYeah because at least half the voting populace is assholes. We just elected a child rapist who's most relevant contribution to society unto now is the Celebrity Apprentice. President Celebrity Apprentice! Great fucking job! You fools.
- CamperBob2 10y agoNow that this is out of your system, consider working for the progress you want to see, instead of piling on with insults. The election was yesterday, it's too late to change anyone's mind.
- simplemath 10y agoI really dont care to change anyone's mind. That hasnt been possible in years anyway. I caucused for my candidate, I did my civic duty. We're a nation of mouthbreathers who cant be reliably counted up to read the front page of a fucking newspaper, let alone do real research about presidential candidates let alone downballot measures. I'm not commenting out of desire for change, I'm incensed. My daughters are going to suffer because of 50 million assholes, and another 50 million more assholes who couldnt be bothered to get off their asses to vote. You tell your kids that bullies dont win, you tell them to do their homework, that being prepared counts, you tell them that they have an even chance, as a woman in a modern world. Well, Bob, the Trump electorate put the lie to all of that. And I'm fucking pissed off about it. I see literally NO common ground with anyone who could look past Trump's character to pull the lever for him. To me, they ARE deplorables, and willful ignorance isnt an excuse.
- return0 10y agoIf we could gather all the negative energy from the internet today, we could make a few black holes.
- venomsnake 10y agoI think you found what the dark energy pushing the universe apart is. The feelings of elections lost in distant galaxies.
