It is a soft form of totalitarianism. When you say that "Language like this makes it even harder for people to hear what you're trying to say" what I hear you saying is that my opinions are not valid because I'm not saying them properly. That is no different, from my perspective, than someone not listening to hispanic people's political opinion because they speak spanish instead of english. tone policing, like you are doing, just causes people to stop listening and dig in.
