I don't really follow Snowden closely, but something I've always wondered: Isn't his ability to provide relevant intel inherently going to decrease as time goes on? Isn't he essentially in exile right now?
Is he getting fed new information? Stockpile of stuff he hasn't released yet? Or just whistleblower celebrity at this point?
- bcook 10y agoHe's a celeb for a damn good reason, and for those reasons I respect him and his views, now and likely in the future.
- dchuk 10y agoI wasn't questioning his celebrity? Just curious how he is able to remain relevant while essentially staying on the run from the US government.
- bcook 10y agoThe "just a celebrity whistleblower" seemed to imply something. He's smart, knowledgeable, and has experience, so his insight into many tech topics is usually worthwhile. He doesn't need to be constantly leaking stuff to stay relevant.
- dmichulke 10y agoValid questions that don't deserve a downvote. I trust Snowden more than any politician in the Western world (ok, that's a low bar) but I also ask myself where from and how he gets the info. Maybe he's a trusted public multiplier for many anonymous whistleblowers today. Kind of a one-man Wikileaks without the politics.
- camillomiller 10y agoJournalist friends. He's certainly always in contact with Poitras, Greenwald and possibly many other top-notch investigative journalists. Plus, he certainly has his own way. He's in exile, not restricted to use a computer. And well, he's kinda good at that.
- benevol 10y ago> Is he getting fed new information? [...] Or just whistleblower celebrity at this point? We don't need any new information or entertainment. We have gotten all the information we needed. The point is, as a society, we failed to act. What we need is constant reminders of this fact. Until we correct our current trajectory to some sane direction.
