Snowden Live – Nov 10th around 21:30 UTC
- dchuk 10y agoI don't really follow Snowden closely, but something I've always wondered: Isn't his ability to provide relevant intel inherently going to decrease as time goes on? Isn't he essentially in exile right now? Is he getting fed new information? Stockpile of stuff he hasn't released yet? Or just whistleblower celebrity at this point?
- bcook 10y agoHe's a celeb for a damn good reason, and for those reasons I respect him and his views, now and likely in the future.
- dchuk 10y agoI wasn't questioning his celebrity? Just curious how he is able to remain relevant while essentially staying on the run from the US government.
- bcook 10y agoThe "just a celebrity whistleblower" seemed to imply something. He's smart, knowledgeable, and has experience, so his insight into many tech topics is usually worthwhile. He doesn't need to be constantly leaking stuff to stay relevant.
- dmichulke 10y agoValid questions that don't deserve a downvote. I trust Snowden more than any politician in the Western world (ok, that's a low bar) but I also ask myself where from and how he gets the info. Maybe he's a trusted public multiplier for many anonymous whistleblowers today. Kind of a one-man Wikileaks without the politics.
- camillomiller 10y agoJournalist friends. He's certainly always in contact with Poitras, Greenwald and possibly many other top-notch investigative journalists. Plus, he certainly has his own way. He's in exile, not restricted to use a computer. And well, he's kinda good at that.
- benevol 10y ago> Is he getting fed new information? [...] Or just whistleblower celebrity at this point? We don't need any new information or entertainment. We have gotten all the information we needed. The point is, as a society, we failed to act. What we need is constant reminders of this fact. Until we correct our current trajectory to some sane direction.
- benevol 10y agoDoes anybody know what it will be about?
- noobermin 10y agoThis seems a little fishy, not a hint of what it's about, and the two main links are for their firefox extension and setting their page as your home page...
- benevol 10y agoI actually use their search engine, and TBH, it's a very solid Google replacement, without the tracking (your search data still does go to Google, though).
- almostApatriot1 10y agoTrump endorsement
- toomuchtodo 10y agoBetter chance of getting a pardon from Trump than Clinton.
- kseistrup 10y agoFrom StartPage/StartMail's newsletter: » Join us on Thursday, November 10, for an exclusive free post-election livestream Q&A with Edward Snowden. The world's most famous whistleblower will address questions about how the US Election results will affect your privacy and his pardon, as well as other questions submitted via social media. We are thrilled to make this event available for viewing at https://startpage.com/snowden https://startpage.com/snowden starting at approximately 4:30 PM Eastern time on November 10th. The feed will be broadcast from the Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam where Snowden will be patched in to our live theater audience via satellite transmission from Moscow. Edward Snowden became world famous after he handed journalists classified documents detailing the global espionage activities of the United States National Security Agency (NSA). Snowden’s exposure of covert government surveillance put privacy firmly on the map, but also put him at great risk. He was forced to flee the US in 2013 to avoid arrest and currently resides in Russia, where he has been given asylum. "Edward Snowden's revelations about government spying and mass data collection are of crucial importance to our society, but he had to sacrifice his free life for it," said Robert Beens, CEO of StartPage.com. "We are proud to honor his service and help bring his privacy message to the world." Livestream Q&A question suggestions may be submitted now through November 9 using the hashtag #StartPageSnowden. We look forward to seeing what you would like our moderator to ask Mr. Snowden. «
- LargeCompanies 10y agoWhat about a Chelsea Manning live/reality show too?
- Twisell 10y agoPlease let it be like "This is about an exploit that rigged the us election, an anonymous group have successfully demonstrated at real scale that electronic voting will never be sufficiently auditable to be trusted. Now let's breath and go vote again with good old paper."
- anotheryou 10y agoWill we see how he is eating cereal? serious, but still vague answer from another comment quoting from the newsletter: "Livestream Q&A"
