Sort of. What people are upset about is that there is no longer a real "Pro" option. If it had become the "Macbook Air Pro," that would complaint would still be valid. The arguments would be framed differently ("why did Apple kill the Pro line" instead of "this Macbook isn't really a Pro"), but the underlying issue would still be there.
