The people currently moaning about drones and soldiers (weirdly, only American drones and soldiers, they never seem to have problems with anyone else's) would instantly start screaming about nuclear weapons instead. And what are we supposed to do if someone calls our bluff? Actually nuke them? Yeah, I'm sure that would go over well with that crowd.
> But I'd never win. If it even looked like I could win, I'd die under mysterious circumstances.
You've been watching too many movies.
- eloff 10y agoYeah, nuke them. Like it's any different anyway. If you invade a nuclear nation, you're going to get nuked. Which makes it idiotic to invade them. That's why regime's want nukes so badly, it makes them untouchable. And yes, if you try to shutdown a $600 billion dollar a year industry, someone who benefits from that system will defend their way of life by bumping you off. Politicians have been offed for much lesser things. Don't kid yourself that everyone plays by the rules.
- mzw_mzw 10y ago> Politicians have been offed for much lesser things. [citation needed] Seriously, you are incredibly confident that anyone advocating real change in the United States will be murdered. Not verbally attacked in the press or by their opponents, but murdered. So you should have no trouble naming, say, five. Go ahead.
- eloff 10y agoYou've only had 4 assassinations in the USA. It's easy to name 5 internationally. I think leaders could accomplish real change in the USA, but extreme changes would very likely result in assassination. I am certain that if anyone tried to dismantle the military industrial complex in the USA that they would be killed for it. Someone in the military would feel it to be their patriotic duty, or one of the big defense companies would do it to protect their business. You're very naive if you think otherwise. Abe Lincoln was killed by Booth apparently for being too North-centric in his policies - Booth believed killed Lincoln would cause a major shift towards the South (which was wrong of course.) Martin Luther King, Jr. wasn't even an elected official, but was killed for trying to change the system. Luis Carlos Galán in Columbia was killed by the Medellin Cartel when it looked like he was going to win the election in a landslide - his platform was tough on crime and involved cracking down on the production and trafficking of cocaine. Olof Palme was assasinated in Sweden for trying to implement socialist reforms. Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan, the first woman elected to lead a Muslim country killed for threatening the status quo.

More specifically, it was about people assassinated by the military-industrial complex. You came up with zero examples. We're done here.
