In this case, the Chinese originally were not copying anything, GoPro just sourced the cameras from a CM here in Shenzhen, putting the GoPro name on it. I suspect the relationship stayed much the same through Hero 2 & 3, with the CM driving the design improvements in the camera.
- mikestew 10y agoYou know, I was tempted in one of my several comments in this thread to make some snarky comment about how GoPro is a "cheap Chinese knockoff" that they just silkscreened "GoPro" onto. But that seemed unnecessarily mean and petty, and I only half-suspected it. But I'll be damned, according to you I was right.
