I would bet this study is one of the many that fall in our modern "reproducibility crisis". And it's precisely because of what you said. There are many coding activities that don't require a deep level of concentration, and at least in my grand sample of one, my brain seems to recognize these situations, create a sensation of discomfort making me instinctively stop the music. However, I would completely fail to accomplish the previously mentioned tedious tasks if I didn't have something in the background preventing myself from wandering off into the depths of the Internet (and that's with the Go Fucking Work add-on installed).
