Once you have buy in with the broader financials the negotiation can take place within a consensus and many of the arguments about what someone personally believes can be brushed aside by the majority views and the actual financials. From my experience, people who really deliver things end up reaping a lot more because they can argue from what they are actually worth on the bottom line and their value as multipliers.
