macOS Sierra Leaks Image of MacBook Pro with Magic Toolbar
- rcarmo 10y agoI'd like to point out that we're having a pretty great argument about this on this HN thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12791672 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12791672

- jjawssd 10y agoGreat detective work. Silenced in 3...2...1...
- madeofpalk 10y agoIt's well understood that certain sites or keywords in submissions result in a a ranking penalty. My guess is that due to the poor noise/signal ratio with topics such as 'Apple' this ensures that anything in this topic has to 'work harder' and be genuinely interesting to each the HN front page. While I'm personally interested in this particular submission, I don't think 'Apple rumours and gossip' this fits on Hacker News.
- ilostmykeys 10y agoHN ranking is a stupid algorithm (not simply "dumb" but demonstrably stupid) Also, for a site that promotes new startups and technologies etc outsourcing censorship to the crowd promotes majority-approved views, which is, once again, stupid, not simply dumb.
- sctb 10y agoThat story tripped the software flamewar detector, which we've now turned off.
- nikcub 10y agoWhatever it did, it had the unintended effect of producing a desired result: the re-blogged content on Macrumors was buried in favor of the original source story. Switch it back on :)
- sctb 10y agoWe certainly will update the link to the original. Do you have any evidence to suggest that's the 512pixels article?
- nikcub 10y agoThat's a good point - I just assumed the 512pixels article was the original since it was shared first widely on Twitter, but only just noticed that Macrumors doesn't reference or credit it. It's possible they both discovered and posted about it today.

- maxerickson 10y agoWe need a HN censorship conspiracy image generator, a la http://boingboing.net/2016/10/22/alt-right-conspiracy-image-gen.html http://boingboing.net/2016/10/22/alt-right-conspiracy-image-...

- brad0 10y agoI sincerely hope apple still offers a version of their MacBook with physical Fn keys. I use them in day to day dev and can't imagine switching to memorizing touch positions.
