Fair point, but how do you decide how much redundancy is excessive? I can always construct a scenario which will require more redundancy and more cost.

- davidf18 10y agoIt would depend on how critical the element is to the system. I would expect at least one backup system. That is there should be a least one major backup DNS provider for example. Some systems on airliners have two backups.
