What would you suggest as punishment for murder then?
- farhaven 10y agoLife in prison without the option of parole. Or, if the murder was caused by something like a psychotic episode or drug withdrawal, therapy in a closed facility.
- vlehto 10y agoSo a free get therapy card? I don't mean to be asshole. It's just that the general moral decay from these things is the absolute worst that can happen. Most people don't think about it with all the focus in the current criminals and victims. Not the future of society. In my understanding the future of society is exactly why there is penal code in the first place.
- eveningcoffee 10y agoIf you would think about it a bit more, then it is possible that you would realize that therapy is more beneficial for the society in general than for the inmate. There would be many things to say, but I would be already incredibly happy if you would realize importance of this small aspect.
- bonzini 10y agoItaly has lifetime prison for the equivalent of first-degree murder, though actually after 30 years you can get parole and after 20 years you can get out during the day for work ("semilibertà"). Lifetime without parole is only given in combination with mafia crimes. But it's very rarely the case that someone gets lifetime with parole, as your penalty is reduced by 1/3 if you are okay with having your sentence decided by the judge right at the preliminary hearing. In that case you can get 30 years for first-degree murder, with parole after 20 years and semilibertà after 15 years. This doesn't apply if you are declared "totally mentally incapable". In that case you don't get a normal sentence, instead you are subject to involuntary treatment which could possibly last for life.
- tirant 10y agoWhat most of western countries do. Limited prison time and help for recovery.
