You seem to be arguing install scripts vs package managers, and we are all discussing something else.
- mindslight 10y agoSure, but the two generally go together. The last time I saw a downloadable shar-esque installer was quite some time ago, and I've never seen software which installs a proper distribution's package using curl | sh. Plain install scripts are still around, but are generally fixed when a package grows up. A large problem with curl | sh (especially which runs further curls) is that it makes a crappy approach masquerade as a polished solution.
