I try to read scripts before I download and execute. The only time I thought WTF was this:
https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py https://bootstrap.pypa.io/get-pip.py
Even though the author made it clear something funny was about to happen - I just could not execute.
When I showed it to the guy next to me (at work) - he said he already installed it on another box and didn't even look.
- deathanatos 10y agoWhere is the WTF in that script? Just because the author chose a base-85 encoding over base64? (That's a little weird, as I suspect the savings are so minor as to not be worth it …)
- yeowMeng 10y agoit could be base3, base64, base84.. that does not matter. The part that I find interesting is how many people who read the script are going to decode the blob and verify that the blob is non-malicious.
