As an applicant there isn't a whole lot you can do if you think a company is discriminatory in some way (either because you're a minority or because you aren't). As a transgender individual, I've learned to pre-screen the companies I apply to based on whether I think there's a risk the company will discriminate against me (either in the hiring process or after that). Location is the main factor I consider along these lines (no North Carolina employers for me).
