I think the intent is to say that Facebook should not choose its board members by political affilications. For example, FB should not cut ties Thiel because he supports Trump, also should not fire others if they support Clinton / conservation / second amendment / whatever else unrelated to the work they do for the company. This seems perfectly reasonable for me.
