I moved from Croatia to Germany when I was 6 (and stayed for another ~6 years). It took me maybe 6 months to learn the language (I moved to a regular school after 3–4 months). I know this is not the answer you were expecting, but I just wanted to highlight how quickly small children can learn a completely new language. If you have kids, consider temporarily moving to a different country :)
